Arty Crafty 2016

Despite the fire, Arty Crafty classes of 2016 were a great success, all things considered. Our second week was cut short due to the fire. Jimmy, Sheleen and I were very disappointed not to have had the opportunity to finish out the week.

The theme of the year was ‘Vikings’. After studying, researching and sketching various aspects of the history involved with the Nordic Vikings, the junior boys created masks, shields, swords and daggers, while the girls created Viking headdresses, necklaces and various other items of jewellery. Sketching and collage work were also worked on.

The senior students worked in the medium of chalk, pencils and oil pastels, and based on these sketches, they created magnificent silk painting, all based on either the Sea or Vikings. To conclude the week, the students modelled viking heads out of clay. The weeks work culminated in an outstanding exhibition of their artwork. Each student went home with a minimum of 3 to 4 pieces.

Examples of their work can be seen in the attached photographs.
